Dedication
This page is dedicated to the members of the Pike Family Association of America that have given countless thousands of hours and days and years to honor the Family Name and keep the circle unbroken. We are indebted to them for their selfless sacrifice and passion. No person who hopes to see far can ever forget that the horizon they view is only theirs because they stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before. My personal thanks to Granddad R. Vernon, Uncle Ken and Aunt Janet and dear Cousin Allen. Marshall Pike, Acting Sec.-Treas., PFAA
Mission - from the text of the Constitution of the Pike Family Association of America, Inc. 1903
The purpose shall be . . ." the promotion of historical and genealogical research, in home or in foreign lands, the publication of any historical or genealogical matter pertaining to the family of which it may become possessed, to the maintenance, by purchase or otherwise, of a suitable building for its corporate meetings and the preservation of its property, and to the perpetuation, by tablet, monument or otherwise, of the names of those who have made the family name illustrious."
Goals of this Web Page
It is the purpose of this announcement to solicit the involvement of dedicated cousins in the effort to sustain the Pike Family Association. I have established a simple membership that primarily maintains current contact and communication with members interested in the purpose of the Pike Family Association. Secondarily, we hope to build on the spirit of family developed at the 2006 reunion on the Bi-centennial of the discovery of Pikes Peak by Zebulon Montgomery Pike in Colorado Springs, CO. The significant interest in the Bi-centennial and a natural return to Association reunions on a more regular basis is a goal of the membership.
Proceedings of the Reunion, July 13-16, 2006
The Proceedings will be prepared and posted to all members within 24 months of the reunion. The President and Secretary of the Association welcome all submittals by attending members and correspondence from members unable to attend.

John Pike Family Publication. The first book to be published covering many descendants of John Pike who arrived in America with his two sons and three daughters in 1635 contains excellent materials for one seeking their Pike Family lineage. Allen R. Pike (No. 1008, Page 590) of Carmel, NY spent over 40 years collecting information on this family and publishing privately in 1995 a 874 page book with over 14,000 names indexed for easy access. Allen is a descendant of Major Robert Pike, our famous attorney during the witchcraft trials in Massachusetts. The book, entitled "The Family of John Pike of Newbury, Massachusetts, 1635-1995" is hardbound
and is currently out of print. Copies may occasionally be found on e-bay
or other online sales boards.

The Meaning of the John Number assigned by the Pike Family Association of America, submitted by Marshall Pike, Acting Sec.-Treas.
There is no genealogical numbering system universally approved to identify the descendancy of individuals in a family tree. Many current computer programs provide or assign a number. The Pike Family Association began to assign lineage numbers in its publication of the line of John Pike in 1956. The numbering system relies completely on the accuracy of the records noting the order of birth of individuals in the family.*
The system begins with the name John for the first Pike in America, John Pike of Newbury, Massachusetts in 1635. Of course, not all Pike's are of this same John, and the Association has had a history of membership by Pikes from other lines, including the Hugh Pikes of Salisbury, and the George Pikes of Marblehead among others. The 1956 designation was the only attempt to link all members of that line and it has been successfully maintained through 14 generations at least.
Therefore, this simple explanation is given:
To determine the lineage from John Pike, you make note of the birth order of each generation that leads to you personally: For example John 1-6-10-3-3-4-8-11-6-2-2 is my son. Who is the 2nd child, of the 2nd child, of the 6th child, of the 11th child, of the 8th child, of the 4th child, of the 3rd child, of the 3rd child, of the 10th child, of the 6th child, of the 1st child of John Pike. Trace the numbers backwards to John and you will see the logic.
John's first son was John (hence the example above begins with John 1 and his well known brother was Major Robert Pike. The Robert Pike wing would all begin with John 2.
* Errors made in this process will be corrected upon satisfactory explanation or notice of verifiable evidence to reorder birth orders. Since any correction compounds through generations, these corrections will be made only by official action of the Pike Family Association of America.
Editors of the Pike Family Association send the Newsletter to all paid members by USPS twice annually.

George Pikes of Marblehead, Hugh Pikes of Newbury, William Pike and Susanna Mills of Kentucky, Pike Association of MN
A fact filled compendium of information authored by Lamar Hamilton is entitled "Pike Connections: From Maryland to Kentucky and Beyond, the Descendants of William Pike and Susanna Mills." First published in 1994, the book tracks the line from the westward migration of William Pike to Kentucky in 1790. He had served in the Revolutionary War as a private in the Maryland Continental Line before leaving with brothers Archibald and John for the great western lands. Lamar Hamilton can no longer respond to the questions of genealogy of this line due to advancing age and illness. Correspondence on the availability of his book should be directed to his brother T. Edward Hamilton, 1938 Burdette, Ferndale, MI 48220.
